VAN DE GRAFF GENERATOR
A Van de Graaff generator is an Electrostatic generator which uses a moving belt to accumulate Electric charge on a hollow metal globe on the top of an insulated column, creating very high electric potentials. It produces very high voltage Direct current and electricity at low current levels. Produces visible electric sparks.
A Van de Graaff generator is an electrostatic generator capable of producing high voltages. It creates an imbalance of charges from the interaction between its roller, belt, and metal comb assembly. It initially allows charges to move along the insulated belt, then stores and distributes them uniformly on the sphere’s surface. The metal sphere then discharges by creating sparks or crackling noises.
Excellent Instrument for teaching Electrostatic to student
Motorised model all working parts are clearly visible, The moving Rubber belt carries a positive charge to the top comb (usually a stretched wire) and then transferred to the large dome. A huge charge can be built on this dome by allowing the unit to run for a while, this charge will remain until it is discharged, either through air or by conduction to an earthed object i.e a metal sphere.
Motor housed in a metal box, removable aluminium conducting sphere, Discharging sphere, sparks can be observed from a longer distance.
