Wet and Dry Bulb Hygrometer is used to measures atmosphericrelative humidity bycomparing the cooling effect of evaporation on two side-by-side Dry and Wet Thermometers.
Simple and easy-to-read instrument for estimating relative humidity outdoors.
PARTS & COMPONENTS
Dry bulb Thermometer which measures the actual, ambient temperature of the surrounding air.
Wet Bulb Thermometer which is wrapped in a cloth wick kept moist with water.
Water evaporating from the wick absorbs heat and cools the wet bulb, making its temperature reading lower than the dry bulb.
The temperature difference between the two Dry and Wet thermometers is calculated and matched with a reference chart to find the relative humidity percentage. Drier air causes faster evaporation and a larger temperature gap, while 100% humidity stops evaporation entirely, making both readings equal.
