MS-425 PVG GOLD LEAF ELECTROSCOPE

  • WHIMSHURST MACHINE
  • GOLD LEAF ELECTROSCOPE A scientific instrument used to assess the presence of electrical charges on a body is known as an Electroscope. A gold-leaf electroscope is electroscope that consists of gold leaves and is used for detecting the electrical charge of the body. Strongly constructed ,powder coated, sheet metal walls of the electroscope and  are mounted on a plastic base. Front glass window slides up to allow insertion of ionizing material in chamber. Transparent scale is attached inside chamber to measure the deflection of the gold leaf. When a charged object touches the electroscope's brass disc, the electric charge gets transferred to the gold leaves through the rod. This results in the gold leaves moving away from each other as like charges repel each other. The movement of the leaves shows the presence of charges in a body. The gold leaves return to their normal position after some time. This happens because they lose their charge after a while. This process is called electrical discharge. The charges in the gold leaves would also be discharged when someone touches the brass rod with empty hands. In that case, the charges are transported to the earth through the human body.

Rectangular, die-cast body, lead provided with finger flaps for easy
removal. Case fitted with 4 mm. earthing socket. Front glass
window which slides up. Nickel plated top disc of 38 mm. diameter.
With gold leaf support plate and aluminum scale having six radial
0
notches at 10 angular separation. Overall size 80 x 60 x 145 mm
