TANGENT GALVANOMETER

A tangent galvanometer is an instrument used in physics laboratories for measuring electric current.

It works on the principle of tangent law, which states that the deflection of the needle is proportional to the tangent of the angle between the needle and the magnetic meridian.

It consists of a insulated circular copper wound on a circular non-magnetic Bakelite frame with a small compass needle suspended at its centre

It consists of a coil of insulated copper wire wound on a circular non-magnetic frame. Its working is based on the principle of the tangent law of magnetism.

When a current is passed through the circular coil, a magnetic field is produced at the center of the coil in a direction perpendicular to the plane of the coil.

When an electric current flows through the coil, it creates a magnetic field that deflects the compass needle, allowing the measurement of the current.

Three set of windings 2,50 and 500 turns.

Applications: Tangent galvanometers are commonly used in experiments to study the properties of electric currents and magnetic fields.
