METER BRIDGE
A meter bridge, also called a slide wire bridge, is an instrument that works on the principle of a Wheatstone bridge. A meter bridge is used to find the unknown resistance of a conductor as that of in a Wheatstone bridge.
Since the bridge uses 1 metre long wire, it is called metre bridge. Since a jockey is slided over the wire, it is also called a slide wire bridge.
The basic working involves connecting the circuit and adjusting the resistance box until a null point is reached where the galvanometer shows zero deflection. The ratio of the lengths of the wire on either side of the jockey at this point gives the ratio of the known and unknown resistances.
Four Gap type with plated brass clips, polished hardwood base, fixed with graduated meter scale and constant wire swg 24 is stretched and held by terminals.
End gaps can be closed by removable brass strips and brass terminals are provided to reduce resistance.
