The pole climbing apparatus is a laboratory instrument used in pharmacology to study the effects of drugs on cognitive function and antipsychotic activity. It is also used to study how animals learn and retain conditioned responses
Used in Pharma Industries, Pharmacy Colleges, Pharmacology Departments.
- Apparatus consist of Outer chamber made of thick plywood sheet with an observation window
- Inner animal chamber is made of clear acrylic sheet bottom of which is provided with chrome plated brass bars.
- A shock for controlled duration of 200V AC 50Hz single phase -0.2ma is built-in and is controlled by built-in 11 position solid state timer upto 30 seconds.\
- Output for connection to kymograph or recorder has been brought out as terminal.
- An animal dropping removal tray has been provided for keeping the equipment clean.
HOW IT WORKS
- Animals are trained to jump on a pole to avoid an electrical shock
- The apparatus can provide audio or light stimuli
- The apparatus can provide an electrical shock of a controlled duration
- The apparatus can record the animal’s response
What it’s used for
- Antipsychotic drugs: The apparatus is used to determine how well antipsychotic drugs work
- Cognitive function: The apparatus is used to study how animals respond to conditioned stimuli during learning
- Stable baseline behavior: The apparatus is used to induce a stable baseline behavior in animals
